Reading: Landscape Infrastructure Case Studies by SWA

A successful architectural landscape involves the implementation of public elements intertwining urban and rural aspects. As Geueze and Skjonsberg write “A vibrant city needs three things: good social interaction, good infrastructure, and nature”. This quote has validity to it in a sense that a successful design is a result of multiple components, similarly to the ones highlighted in Rottle and Yocom’s Ecological Design reading including equilibrium, resilience in cities and boundaries just to name a few. Due to the ever-evolving environment, the relationships of these functions must adapt to new changes and conditions over time. Thus a successful project approaches the landscape and urban design with innovation thinking of how to integrate in infrastructure where a complex urban language can harmoniously work with the natural landscape features.
